If you are like me you may recently have taken more occasions than you normally would to see how the stock market is doing. You might look first at the Dow Jones Industrial Average on the New York Stock exchange then take a peek other markets around the world. It doesn't take long to realize that the financial crisis is a world-wide thing. You might get faint hearted and start worrying thinking " What is going to happen to me?"
I read a quote from a financial analyst recently. He said, "But are asset prices signaling that the end of the world is nigh?" and "Conditions in the economic and corporate worlds could at some point become so dire that all these fears are justified, meaning security prices might actually reflect the eventual reality. But we don't know that for sure -- no one does."

It is such a time as this that try men's souls. I know that after 9/11/2001, people were more apt to be interested in spiritual things than when things are going smoothly and fairly predictable. That year there was a tremendous response to the Gospel across the country. So, I think it is reasonable to assume, that there are a lot of people out there that who are going to be more open to the Gospel. With the Lord's empowerment, let us keep our eyes peeled, hearts open, looking for those opportunities the Lord has laid on our door step to share the Gospel.

Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. (John 4:35)
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matt. 9:36-38)

Then be like Isaiah and say "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8)

Meet the Herdmans--six awful kids and one stressed-out cat, all prone to mischief of the worst kind. Like the time they set fire to Fred Shoemaker's toolhouse while playing with a stolen chemistry set, or when Claude Herdman "emptied the whole first grade in three minutes flat when he took the cat to Show-and Tell."
The Herdman kids attend Sunday school only because they think they'll get to eat cake there. Once Christmas pageant plans begin, they intimidate all the other children into letting them volunteer for the biggest parts. When the town reacts with horror to the news that the most sinful children will be playing the holiest roles, the pageant director becomes even more determined to make it work.

Dear Pastor and Worship Leader, On Saturday, March 7, 2009, it will be our privilege to host Worship Summit 2009 for the North Texas area. On that day, worship teams, pastors, instrumentalists, composers and anyone with an interest in worship will gather together via satellite across North America for Integrity’s Worship Summit 2009, a time of worship, teaching, equipping and encouragement. This live satellite conference will feature some of today’s foremost worship artists, including Paul Baloche, Brian Doerksen, Lincoln Brewster, Ross Parsley and others who will answer your questions and share insights on topics like the true purpose of worship, how to experience God’s authentic presence, and Spirit-inspired songwriting. The conference will begin at 8:30 Saturday morning and will conclude at 3:30 that afternoon. Lunch will be provided. Having served as a worship leader in the local church for 31 years, I know how challenging it can be for pastors to find biblical, affordable and geographically accessible equipping opportunities for themselves as well as for volunteer leaders in their churches. To that end it is the desire of our church to make this valuable resource tool available to as many churches as possible. Now through December 31, tickets to Worship Summit 2009 may be purchased directly from Aldersgate Church at the early bird price of $49 each for groups of 10 or more and $69 each for 1–9 individuals. Beginning January 1, tickets will be $69 each for groups of 10 or more and $89 each for 1–9 people. Space is limited so please register today using the registration form (click here). If you have questions, please call our office at 903-455-9199 or email now (musicman at aldersgate-church dot com). I want to personally encourage you to attend Worship Summit 2009 and to consider making this training event available to those who are regularly entrusted with the awesome responsibility of leading your church in worship. Join with thousands of others across the nation for Worship Summit 2009. Be challenged to go deeper in your heart for worship while learning practical ideas to make your worship services more effective. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!
A Letter From Pastor Rick - Home

"Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever!" Hebrews 13:8

Take a moment and let the magnitude of that promise sink into your soul. No matter how dark the night, how tumultuous the storm, or how uncertain the future this promise is light, and peace, and hope.

Often we focus on the "sameness" or unchanging aspect of this promise but the reality that fills me with strength is the One to whom the promise is connected. It speaks of Christ as being the immutable One. Christ is the one who never changes. If someone were to say that the economy is unchanging that would certainly be encouraging but it would not give peace or hope when facing a debilitating disease, the loss of a loved one, or eternity. However, when we hear that Christ is unchanging we find security, peace, and hope both now and into eternity. Consider the yesterday's, today's and forever's of your life

     * Yesterday - Aldersgate will reflect on yesterday during her 40th celebration and counting the innumerable blessings and marking the constant faithfulness of our unchanging God.
     * Today - this hits home for us as we are facing so many details and changes. There are things outside of our control, like the sale of our home in an uncertain economy, yet He is faithful and able. He is Jehovah-Jireh - God our provider. He has been providing so much for us already. He has given us a place to live, pasture to keep our horses, a friend to haul the horses down so we wouldn't have too, and ...
     * Forever - God has given to us a wonderful, new church family to love and serve. We are already so thankful for this blessing and the kindness that you have shown to us.
o We look to the future with great anticipation and expectation of what God is going to for His own glory and the good of His people. o With an unchanging Savior forever holds no fear only promise and eternal glory. I recently sat with a friend who was longing for his forever to begin and within a few short hours he went home to be with his Lord. There is no fear in death for the child of God only longing and hope.

So, beloved hold tight to the promise of the Lord - Christ is the same and He will never change. When all else is chaotic and frightening He is strong and secure; and best of all, He will never cease to be all you need.

For His Glory,
Pastor Rick

History of Aldersgate Church

Aldersgate Church was formed in October of 1968. The name Aldersgate was chosen because it reflected the desire that individuals, as did John Wesley at the chapel on Aldersgate street in London, England, would place their full trust in Jesus Christ to be their Savior, thus having an assurance of their salvation and knowing His life-changing presence in their lives.

From 1968 thru 1978 Aldersgate was a part of the Evangelical Methodist Church denomination. Early in 1979 the fellowship became an independent, non-denominational church.

The original building, which now houses the chapel and the office complex, was completed in 1972. The gym, kitchen and adjacent classrooms were added in 1978. The latest addition to the facilities, which includes the sanctuary, nursery, parlor and upstairs classrooms, was completed in January, 1988.

Pastoral Staff

Rick Prettyman, Senior Pastor - Rick came to serve as Aldersgate's senior pastor in November, 2008. Being around the ministry my entire life I did not have a personal desire for it. In fact, my goal was to play professional baseball. During high school I was invited to a couple of major league tryouts. However, instead of pursuing baseball I went to Bible College and that is where God really got a hold on my life. I do remember as a teenager that I sensed the call of God on my life to full-time Christian ministry but I resisted Him for a time. I felt particularly led to youth and music ministry, which I did for seven years before becoming a senior pastor. Rick came to Greenville from Aurora, NE. He and his wife Julie have three children, Lauren, Morgan and Logan. Contact Pastor Rick at pastor@aldersgate-church.com

Kent Bond, Minister of Music & Christian Education - Kent joined our staff in June, 1988. He is originally from Baytown, Texas. Kent received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from East Texas State University and his Master of religious Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before coming to Aldersgate, Kent served churches in Cumby, Wolfe City, and Arlington, Texas, as well as in Evergreen, Colorado. Kent and his wife, Charlene, have two children. Lisa and Greg.

Aldersgate Purpose Statement

"To help people begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, develop them to Christlike maturity, and equip them for their ministry in the church and their life mission in the world, in order to magnify God's name."

Doctrinal Statement

1-The Bible

We believe in the plenary (complete), verbal inspiration of the inerrant Word of God, such that God superintended human authors with their own experience, personality, methods, and style to produce the very words of Scripture - the Word of God - without error in the original writings.

2 - The Trinity

We believe in one God, the living and true God, existing eternally in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit each having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections.

3 - The Father

We believe that God the Father, unlimited in holiness, power and majesty, showed His exceedingly great love in giving His only begotten Son to redeem man from sin for eternal fellowship with Him. This act of grace was carried out according to His eternal, sovereign plan. The nature of the Father is completely and perfectly revealed in the Son.

4 - The Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, and continues to be the God-Man forever. We believe that He was born of the virgin Mary, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit, entered into human flesh in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe that His death on the cross was a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all men and that His bodily resurrection from the dead guaranteed redemption and salvation to all those who believe. We also believe that He later ascended into heaven, exalted at the right hand of God where He is our High Priest and Advocate.

5 - The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, eternal in being, took up His abode in the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts man of sin. At salvation He regenerates, baptizes, indwells, seals, fills, and sets apart believers unto a holy life. He continues to convict of sin and to fill believers daily as they yield to Him. We also believe that He keeps and empowers believers day by day, and is the Teacher of the Word of God and the Guide for daily living.

6-Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell through sin against God which brought mankind into a state of sin, separation from God, and made him subject to the power of Satan.

We also believe that every child of Adam is born into the world with a nature which not only possesses no spark of divine life, but is totally depraved apart from divine grace. Man can only obtain spiritual life and salvation through the Redeemer, Jesus Christ

7 - Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God in grace and is received by any man only through repentance from sin and personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins. We believe that when an unregenerate person exercises that faith in Christ and His death on the cross as payment for his sin, he passes immediately out of spiritual death into spiritual life, and from the old creation into the new; being justified, accepted before the Father just as Christ, His Son, is accepted and loved as Christ is loved, having his place and portion as linked to Him, and one with Him forever in a literal heaven.

8 - The Church

We believe that the church, which began on the day of Pentecost, is the body and the bride of Christ, and is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons irrespective of their affiliation with Christian organizations. We further believe that by the Holy Spirit all believers in this age are baptized into, and thus become, one body that is Christ's. Having become members one of another, we are under solemn duty to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, rising above all sectarian differences, and loving one another with a pure heart fervently. Eligibility for Baptism and the Lord's Supper is based on one's personal trust in Christ as Savior, and not in local church membership.

(NOTE: The above is an abridged statement. For a complete doctrinal statement, please contact the church office.)

Good News/Bad News

Has anyone ever taken a Bible and shown you how you can know that you're going to heaven? May I?

The Bible contains both bad and good news. The bad news is something about you. The good news is something about God.

Let's discuss the bad news first.

1. Bad News

Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." When the Bible says that you and I have sinned, it means that we lie, we lust, we hate, we murder, etc. The word "sin" in the Bible actually means "to miss the mark." In other words, God is perfect and we aren't. Let me explain! Suppose you and I were to each pick up a rock. Then I say to you, "I want you to throw that rock and hit the North Pole." Well, you might get it farther than I, or I might get it farther than you, but neither of us would make it. Both of us would fall short. When the Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," it means that God has set a standard He expects every one of us to meet. That standard is God Himself. He expects us to be holy as He is holy, as perfect as He is perfect. But it doesn't matter how religiously we live, how good we are, or how hard we work; we cannot meet that standard. All of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

The penalty for sin is death. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death..." Suppose you were to work for me one day and I were to pay you fifty dollars. Fifty dollars would be your wages. It represents what you have earned. The Bible is saying that because you and I have sinned, we have earned death. We are going to die and be eternally separated from God. Since there was no way you could come to God, the Bible says that God decided to come to you.

2. Good News

Christ died for you. Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Let's say that you were in the hospital dying of cancer. I could come to you and say, "I want to do something for you. We'll take the cancer cells from your body and put them into my body and I'll die in your place." What would happen to me? Right! You would live. Why? Because I took the thing that was causing your death, placed it upon myself and I died as your substitute. The Bible is saying that Christ came into the world and He took the sin that was causing your death. He placed it upon Himself and He actually died in your place. He was your substitute! The third day. He arose, as proof that sin, death, and the devil had been conquered. You can be saved through faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Now you may be wondering, "What is faith?" The word "faith" means "trust." For example, you weren't here when that chair was made and you didn't examine how it was built before you sat down. You are simply trusting the chair to hold you. Putting your faith in Christ means trusting Him to save you - not trusting your church membership, your good life, or your baptism to get you to heaven, but trusting Christ and Him alone. Your trust has to be in the One who died for you and arose. It is then that God gives you heaven as a free gift Think carefully. There is nothing more important than your need to trust Christ. Would you like to tell God you are trusting Jesus Christ as your Savior? If you would, why not pray right now and tell God you are trusting His Son? Remember! It is not a prayer that saves you. It is trusting Jesus Christ that saves you.

Prayer is simply how you tell God you are trusting what you are doing.

"Dear God, I know I'm a sinner. I know my sin deserves to be punished. I believe Christ died for me and rose from the grave. I trust Jesus Christ alone as my Savior. Thank you for the forgiveness and everlasting life I now have. In Jesus' name. Amen."

Becoming a Member

Personal identification and association with a local church through official membership is a privilege for every believer in Jesus Christ. The following information outlines the procedure for becoming a member ofAldersgate Church.

• Individuals interested in membership in Aldersgate Church are asked to contact the Pastor in person or by phone. The church's doctrinal statement, constitution and by-laws will be provided to read through as well as other pertinent literature explaining the ministry of the church.

• After reading the material the prospective member can contact the church office to make an appointment to meet personally with the Pastor at which time each candidate will share his personal Christian testimony and his response to the church's doctrinal statement, constitution and by-laws. In addition, his particular areas of interest for personal ministry will be explored and an opportunity will be given to the prospective member for questions concerning the church's ministry, philosophy or any other issues of interest or importance.

• Following this discussion of each candidate's personal relationship to Christ and his agreement with the church's doctrinal statement, a date will be determined for the Sunday on which he will be officially welcomed into the Aldersgate Church family.

Music Ministry

Worship has been described as "heaven's highest occupation and earth's greatest privilege." Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are to consistently worship God both individually and corporately. Promoting worship is the highest priority of our music ministry.

At Aldersgate Church we seek to create an atmosphere in corporate services that is conducive to and that promotes worship.

We feel that worship must be participatory rather than "performer/spectator" based. For this reason, we try to utilize groups of believers in leading worship as opposed to "spotlighting" individuals. Even as a beautiful picture frame serves the purpose of drawing attention to the picture it surrounds, teams of musicians such as our Worship Team and the Chapel Choir seek through appropriate music and drama to focus the attention of the body on Christ.

In addition to ministering regularly in worship services, the Chapel Choir also prepares seasonal as well as other major works for times of special emphasis as well as for evangelistic thrusts. Membership in the Chapel Choir is open to everyone grade 7 and up. The Chapel Choir meets every Sunday at 5:00. Children also have the opportunity to participate in choral organizations. The Joyful Noise Choir, for children age 4 through grade 2, and the Kingdom Kids Choir, for children in grades 3 through 6, meet each Wednesday evening.

Christian Education

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15). The purpose of our Christian Education ministry at Aldersgate Church is to see lives changed by involving people in Biblical learning within a caring community so that people are engaged in the process of becoming more like Christ.

We believe the Bible is the final authority of truth for living. Therefore, we place a high priority on the practical and relevant communication of God's Word. Effective Bible teaching will seek to do three things. First, it will communicate God's truth without compromise. Second, it will stimulate the mind and the heart of the student. And third, it will be a catalyst to effect a change toward godliness in the life of the student. When believers faithfully seize opportunities to study God's Word in an atmosphere where these three goals for effective teaching are present, their lives will be impacted and God will accomplish His will, resulting in changed lives that honor and glorify Him.

Believers have numerous opportunities for Bible study at Aldersgate Church. In our Sunday morning Sunday School ministry that meets from 9:15 to 10:15, classes for children, youth, college students and adults are provided. On Wednesday evenings, ministries for children and youth provide for Bible study with an emphasis on outreach and life application. Pioneer Clubs for children meet at 7:00. Heartbeat, for Jr. and Sr. High students, meets at 6:30.

Topics, times, locations and teachers are printed in church publications and are available in the church office and in the hospitality center.

Women's Ministry

The purposes of the Women's Ministry at Aldersgate Church are:

• To minister to the women of the church, seeking to help each one mature spiritually.

• To equip women to minister to and serve others in the body by using their individual spiritual gifts.

• To provide opportunities and encouragement to serve in outreach to the community.

Programming and ministry events are planned with these purposes in mind. Examples of some of the ministries held throughout the year include a fall Women's Conference featuring seminars led by women from within this local body; a spring Women's Retreat held away from the church and featuring a guest speaker; a variety of weekly Bible study classes; a women's prayer and share group; and a Sunday School class for women that meets each Sunday morning. Opportunities for outreach both within the church and to the community occur during the year as well.

It is the prayer of the Women's Committee that Christian women be a reflection of Christ to all those they come in contact with. It is to this end that this ministry is ever changing to better meet the needs of women at Aldersgate Church.

Men's Ministry

Aldersgate Church is led by a plurality of men, working in various ways to accomplish God's purpose for our church, the body of Christ at large, and to minister to the unsaved world. Men are considered by God and this body to be the spiritual leaders of the family and the church. Therefore, it is our vision and purpose to prepare and support men for this divine goal. Specifically, we do this through the following means:

• Ministers, both lay and professional, who have as their purpose to equip the body for ministry, lead in specific areas such as preaching, teaching, Christian education, music, worship and prayer.

• The elders are involved in the spiritual nurture and shepherding of the body, as well as providing vision and planning for the ministry of the body.

• The deacons are involved in the implementation and administration of ministries which are considered vital to carry out God's will for this body.

• The Men's Committee plans for ministering to men through men's retreats, small groups for personal accountability, ministry work groups and participation in local and national men's groups.

In summary, the men of Aldersgate are the vital, active backbone of this body, leading and supporting the total life of the church.

Small Group Ministry

We live in a very impersonal society and yet, as believers, we are admonished to care for one another personally, to be dependent upon one another, to be transparent with one another and to be actively involved in the building up of one another spiritually. We believe that it is only at the small group level that this depth of Biblical fellowship can take place.

The purpose of a small group is two-fold. First, it is designed to be a support group for believers within the local church. By support group, we mean a group of people who are committed to encourage one another, pray for one another, serve one another and grow with one another toward maturity in their relationship with

Christ. Second, the small group is designed to be a ministry group. This ministry must have two aspects: reaching in (that is, serving one another within the body of Christ), and reaching out (in evangelism, sharing the Gospel with friends, neighbors and relatives).

Small groups meet together on the first and third Sunday nights of each month and at other times as planned by the group. If you would like to be a part of a small group, please contact the church office or one of the pastors or elders, or indicate your interest on the visitor information slip.

Library and Media Center

The Aldersgate Church library and Media Center is located at the back of the Chapel and is open before and after scheduled meeting times on Sunday and Wednesday. At other times, anyone wishing to use the Center may get the key from the office. Our Library and Media Center has a good variety of materials -books, video tapes, audio tapes and periodicals. There are Bible study materials as well as resources in the following categories: children's literature, missions, Christian growth, Christian fiction and biography.

There is no fee for books borrowed, but a donation is accepted for overdue books. Video rentals are $1.00 -$1.50, though some, such as the Promise Keepers tapes, are free.

The Library and Media Center committee welcomes suggestions and/or volunteer help from any who are interested.

Nursery

Mark chapter 10 gives a beautiful account of Jesus and His love for children. At Aldersgate Church we recognize children to be gifts from God, precious and valuable in His sight. We take very seriously the opportunities that we have to reflect God's love to children, seeking to care for them spiritually as well as physically.

Utilizing both paid staff and volunteers we provide a nursery for babies up to two years of age during all programs, worship services and church activities. The church nursery staff will be more than happy to show you the facilities and to discuss with you policies and procedures pertaining to the use of the nursery.

Missions

Aldersgate Church is committed to creating a vision for missions among its members. The mission outreach of this church includes any endeavor to fulfill the Great Commission of Christ by proclaiming the gospel, making disciples, and relating to the physical and spiritual needs of mankind locally and abroad. We are challenged to do this by supporting our missionaries around the world, not only financially but also through prayer and encouragement. Currently, Aldersgate Church is supporting more than 15 individuals and families in a variety of ministries throughout the U.S. and the world. A complete listing of the missionaries presently supported by Aldersgate Church along with information concerning their locations and ministry descriptions can be found on the missions bulletin board located in the hallway between the church office and the gym. In order to carry out the above stated tasks, the missions committee seeks:

• To cultivate increased missions awareness, prayer and financial support within the body.

• To stimulate and recruit volunteers for mission service from within the congregation and expose our young people to missions through short-term mission trips.

• To support our missionary families through monthly prayer bulletins, correspondence, missionary birthday greetings, and Christmas gifts.

• To develop, administer and evaluate the missions program of the church

• To properly manage all church funds allocated to missions.

Leadership

Elders

The elders, as overseers of the local church, are responsible for the spiritual health of the body. In practice, the elders establish the guidelines and policies for leading services, programs, and the general conduct of church business. They are to lead by precept and example, realizing they are accountable to the Lord Jesus Christ for their efforts (Hebrews 13:17; Acts 20:24,28). The qualifications for an elder are set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:1-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.

Deacons

Deacons hold a vital leadership position and contribute to the successful functioning of the body. In this role deacons assist the elders in the discharge of the church ministry. They are delegated the authority for the execution of various ministry responsibilities and programs. Deacons must exhibit the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

"Being around the ministry my entire life I did not have a personal desire for it. I felt particularly led to youth and music ministry, which I did for seven years before becoming a senior pastor."

Workday at Church (will be each following 5th Saturday in months that have one!)

2008 Men's Retreat - We are scheduled to be at the Spirit of the West Resort in Tioga, TX (same venue as last year) on November 14th and 15th. Essentially we'll have the same setup and schedule as we had last year (meet for dinner Friday night and conclude Saturday afternoon) with golf again on Saturday afternoon. John Woodworth has agreed to be our speaker this year. Please be praying for the impact this event can have on our lives and our church over these two months before we meet there. Click here to contact Kevin Sawatsky.

On Friday we will gather in Tioga, TX at the Spirit of the West Resort (http://www.spiritofthewestresort.net) once again for the 2008 Aldersgate Men’s Retreat.

Our agenda will be similar to last year:

Friday, November 14
6:30 p.m. Meet for Dinner – Prairie House (1001 Hwy. 380, Cross Roads, TX 76227)
9:00 p.m. Session I

Saturday, November 15
8:00 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 a.m. Session II
12:00 p.m. Lunch
1:00 p.m. Assorted Activities (Golf Scramble, fishing, etc...)
5:00 p.m. Dinner – Clark’s Outpost, Tioga
7:00 p.m. Depart for home

Your investment for this event remains the same as last year ($90 – what else costs the same as it did a year ago?!). That covers lodging (double occupancy), breakfast and lunch at Spirit of the West, all the meetings and activities – including golf. Please note that the two dinners are not included as a part of the registration cost. Please call or email me (kevin@sawatsky.org) ASAP if you plan to attend!

Our speaker this year will be our own John Woodworth. We look forward to hearing what God has laid on his heart to share with us! At this point we have several of the gentlemen who ministered at the International Student Sunday participating in our Retreat. For those who were at the event last year, you’ll remember what great input they had into our discussion and the bonds that were formed in that time together. To make this happen, we still need to be able to provide scholarship funding so please consider if that is something with which you can help.

All you will need to bring will be enthusiasm and your Bible – and maybe a set of clubs... Please prayerfully consider your participation in this major event in our church calendar.

On His ride,

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY RENOVATIONS - Christian Education Team

Research has shown that 83% of people that become Christians do so before the age of 15. Your Christian Education Ministry Team recognizes the significant opportunities this presents and to that end, is committed to reaching kids for Christ. We live in a day when the quality of facilities, especially those set apart for use by children, is more critical than ever before. Following a lengthy and detailed inspection and analysis of our existing children's ministry space, furnishings and equipment, our team concluded that substantial improvements are definitely needed. Consequently, a very specific and well thought out plan has been formulated and renovations have begun!
Phase 1 of our plan called for the renovation and refurbishing of six classrooms, one hallway, one stairwell and one closet. Phase 2 will include two additional rooms and another stairwell.

Today we are rejoicing and praising God for your generosity and selfless support of our church's attempt to reach children for Christ. Through you, God has provided everything needed for the completion of Phase 1! New furniture and fixtures have begun arriving and we are working diligently to complete the work included in Phase 1. "We thank God every time we remember you, praying with joy because of your partnership in the gospel!"

Work will begin on Phase 2 this fall. If you would like to help you may contribute to the Children's Renovation Fund. A detailed list of Phase 2 plans and need will be published later this summer. We ask that gifts be above and beyond regular giving to the general budget. Your gift can be a memorial gift remembering on or our beloved teachers that recently went to be with the Lord; Vicki Harris.

We thank you very much for your prayers, your support and your investment in the lives of children.

In Christ's Service,
Sandra Johnson, Amber Pitts, Jerri Boles
Cathy Nixon, Rene' Sawatsky, Kent Bond

PHASE 1
(Rooms 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 19, south stairwell, north hallway)

We worship a great and mighty God Who can do anything He wants to do whenever He wants to do it. We dream big because He is a big God. Come dream with us!

GRIT:A Monthly Woman's Book Club - Women's Ministry Team

The 3rd Monday night of the month, 6:30-8pm, and subsequent 3rd Mondays of each month, we will meet at Aldersgate Church, 5500 Sayle St, Greenville, Tx .

Who: Any woman interested in reading a variety of books and then discussing them with friends. You do not need to be a member of Aldersgate to participate.

What: We each read the club's chosen book of the month and then discuss and review it. Many times some of use have not been able to read the entire book, but we are very casual and hope that you come anyways. We do not have the rule that you cannot talk if you have not read the book.

When: The third Monday of each month at 6:30 PM. We do not meet in July, August, or December.

Where: At Aldersgate church in the parlor - next to the kitchen in the back of the church.

Why? To have Christian fellowship and to read and share out thoughts on literature from the Christian perspective.
This book club is very informal. No homework aside from reading the book. We will just discuss/critique it. You can participate in that process or just listen. You can come alone or bring a friend.
Bring any ideas you have for a book club with you and a list of books that you would like us to consider reading. Make sure that the book would be available, not out of print.

Some suggestions to help you find the book -
Family Bookstore in Greenville, where you can help the church library by using a Ministry Perks card which gives credit for books to the Aldersgate library,
or Amazon (www.amazon.com) Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25, so it helps to group orders together.
Christian Book Distributors (www.cbd.com) have a little lower price, but there is a shipping cost.

Please email me if you are interested so that we will have an idea how many will be attending and we can arrange for the appropriate size room.
Thank you--Karen Holmes,
Book Club Facilitator
Click here to send e-mail to Karen Holmes or call at (903) 883-5472

The Book Club met last night (Monday) and reviewed My Grandfather's Son, an autobiography by Justice Clarence Thomas. We had a most interesting discussion from racism to politics. Next month will be our last meeting of the year and a time of discussing our choices for books for the coming year. So please bring your ideas and preferences with you if you'd like to have input in next year's books. Be thinking of edifying fiction, non-fiction, biographies, classics or history books that you've heard good things about. At our November meeting, we will be reviewing a most interesting and a bit controversial book, The Shack, by William Paul Young and Tale of Three Kings, a book that Chuck has mentioned that he wishes we would all read. The first is easy reading, most enjoyable, mind expanding, and even though it is not completely Biblically accurate, I think it is a must read for everyone. In particular, it may be a comforting benefit to those that have lost someone close, especially a child. The second book takes only about an hour to read. We will break for December and resume again on January 19, where we'll review, Skipping Christmas, by John Grisham. Blessings to you all.--Karen

Experiencing God Together Small Groups - Youth Group

We are proud and excited to announce we are kicking off new small group material Sunday October 19th @ 6:30pm. It is Experiencing Christ Together. This material is specifically designed to be interactive, thought-provoking, fun and generationally dynamic without compromising or watering down God's Word and Truth. It is written and created by two individuals, Doug Fields and Brett Eastman. Below I will give links for these men and the resources for the curriculum.

There is a small cost for the books, $7.00. The Youth Leadership Team finds this to be a small cost compared to the eternal rewards and life change that will occur, when used! The first book we will be starting in the series is Connecting In Jesus, a book designed to help students understand Jesus Love for them and show them how to share that love with others. The student books are packed full of material to help them follow along, take home and share with others!
The book is optional but I would strongly suggest it. If finances are a problem, please let me know.

This is one of many ministries we desire to cherish and continually want to review to make better. We are meeting in small groups,
Jr. High girls-Rebecca Robinson,
Jr. High Boys-James Hilbrand,
Sr.High girls-Sandra Johnson
Sr. High boys-Stephen Walton.

We all are excited and in prayer for this new season in small groups and hope you will be too as you talk with your children about it! Please be in prayer for hearts, openness and change.
You should make checks out to Aldersgate Church and would need money in by October 19th, we apologize for the late notice, as we took prayerful time to consider the material and book.

Heartbeat Family Sundays - Youth Group

Hello Heartbeatians and Parents,

The Youth Leadership has a desire for the students of Heartbeat Student Ministries to grow in their relationship with Christ passionately! A vital role that takes place to accomplish this is here at Heartbeat but just as, or more important is what happens within their own families as well. In light of this, the Youth Leadership Team has decided to have a "Family Sunday" where students observe and participate in the Sunday morning service with their own families! This "Family Sunday" would take place on our Communion Sundays throughout the year. The students will eventually graduate from Heartbeat and this stage in their journey but will always remain with family and we desire to nurture and grow these vital relationships as well. We hope, in a small way, this will help in accomplishing just that, enjoying and experiencing each other in a corporate worship setting.

For those whose families don't attend Aldersgate Sunday services are more than welcome to join Christan and I or any other Youth Leadership family(or any family invitation) during this special time, You are loved.

Family Sunday will go into effect from this time forward.

Hi Men:
We often meet at Dickey's Bar-B-Q at 6:30pm for dinner and fellowship. Dickey's is located just west of the intersection of I-30 and Wesley, next door to Cracker Barrel. Or we may meet at the church and order in Pizza.

This would be a great time to invite the neighbor that you have been wanting to invite. We will often return to the church after dinner for a movie or game night. This is a great opportunity to meet and share with some men that you may normally get to spend time with.

In Christ,
Kevin Sawatsky, Men's Team Chairman

First Friday CRAFTERS AFTERNOON ! Do you like crafting, or are you interested in trying crafting. This group meets the first Friday of every month and is open to any lady in the community. Bring your scrapbook, stamping, painting, quilt project, sewing, or any other craft project you have on hand, and join us for a day filled with fun, fellowship and finished projects. Mark your calendar for the FIRST Friday of each month, from noon until 10 p.m. We will meet in the chapel and work on different crafts. There is no cost for these hours of fun.
Bring tools to share, if you have them and are willing to let those with fewer supplies enjoy some new "toys".
As for a meal, it’s every gal for herself. You can brown bag it, go out, take out, or we can (some or all) chip in for a pizza. Note: To make sure you have easy access to the chapel, park on the south side of the chapel. When you leave, you go out the bump door and it locks behind you - no worries about who has a key to lock up the church and your car is right there.Contact Karen Holmes for more info or to check on the schedule.

JOIN US FOR A WEEKEND OF
FAMILY FUN at Jan Kay Ranch.Dear Church Family -

The Ninth Annual Aldersgate Family Camp will happen March 6-8, 2009 at Jan Kay Ranch in Detroit, TX.

If you've never attended Family Camp - just ask someone who has and you'll discover that once a person attends they typically would not think of missing it again! It is a really special time of community. . We call it "Family Camp" because "we" (you and me) are a family!
We hope you will plan now to be a part of FAMILY CAMP this coming March!
Cost for 2008
2yr & under Free3-8 yrs old $59 each9-12 yrs old $85 each13 yrs and up $110 each

Price include 2 nights lodging and 5 meals, Praise and Worship, Lessons from Scripture , childcare during meeting times, Saturday evening square dancing, and all the great Jan-Kay activities. Plus, great old-fashioned fun & fellowship.
We want to take YOU next year. The main thing that seems to keep people from attending is the cost. We want to help you in this area. The average family of four can attend family camp by budgeting approximately $30.00 a month. We would like to encourage you to begin now by planning for next year. You can make monthly payments to the Aldersgate Family Camp Account and be paid in full when Family Camp rolls around next year. We also want you to know that family camp is for everyone in the "family" - that's EVERYONE in the body. We have singles, couples, grandparents with grandkids, empty-nesters like Mike and myself, plus those still raising their children. If you would like to take advantage of the 12 month plan, please contact me and I'll help you decide on what the monthly payment needs to be. We see family camp as an important ministry of the body at Aldersgate. It's a time of bonding with the "family."
